RRB EXAM PATTERN 2019 describes the nature of questions, marking scheme, section-wise marks distribution, total number of questions, etc. Here, you can find the Latest RRB EXAM PATTERN, which will give an overall idea of the exam and help in better preparation.

On July 25, 2018, Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has published the official notification on Section wise marks for RRB ALP & Technicians Posts 2018 First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT), which is going to be held on August 9, 2018. RRB ALP, Technician 2018 CBT exam will consists of 75 objective type questions from 4 sections namely, Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science and General awareness and Current Affairs. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer chosen by the candidate. The detailed section wise distribution of questions and marks is tabulated below. The Total Duration of CBT is 60 minutes (80 minutes for eligible PWD candidates accompanied with scribe). Check the official Notification on RRB ALP & Technicians Posts CBT Section wise marks. Indian Railways is one of the largest networks with around 1.4 lakh employees. The job vacancies in railways are filled through recruitment by Railway Recruitment Board (RRB)/21 RRBs/Railway Recruitment Cells across the nation. The recruitment process for each post differs based on the requirement of skill set for that particular post. The staffs of Indian Railways are recruited under two categories i.e. gazetted (Group A and B) and non-gazetted (Group C and D) employees. A brief recruitment detail for each Group is given below.

  • Group A – Through UPSC Exams
  • Group B – By promotion from Group C or by RRB (for certain posts)
  • Group C – By 21 RRBs across nation
  • Group D – By Railway Recruitment Cells across nation

The Exam Pattern for post is detailed below under each section.

The posts of Technical Cadre in Group C are filled in by Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) through Indian Railway Technical Cadre Exam (RTCE). The eligibility to apply for RTCE would be Civil/Mechanical Engineering graduates or graduates in Signalling and Telecom/other similar disciplines can also apply. The First Stage of selection process is Written Exam which has questions based on the following subjects

  • Arithmetical Aptitude
    (ii) General Responsiveness
    (iii) General English
    (iv) Logical and Analytical Reasoning

  • Following the Written test, based on the specifications of the job, candidates will have Aptitude Test/Skill Test/Vision Test, etc. Aptitude Test/Skill Test/Vision Test, etc are of qualifying nature and candidates should clear the test to be qualified for the next stage of selection process.
  • The next stage of selection process will be Interview/Document Verification. Candidates getting shortlisted in Interview/Document Verification will be given appointment only up on declared medically fit in Medical Fitness Test. The Final Merit list is published only after the Medical Fitness Test. Get the syllabus for Technical Cadre/Engineering post from RRB Syllabus.

Non-Technical Popular Category is one of the post in Group C with huge number of openings. There are around nine posts which fall under Group C NTPC and the recruitment is done in five steps as mentioned below.

(i) Written Test (Tier I)
(ii) Written Test (Tier II)
(iii) Typing (Skill) Test/Aptitude Test (Based on post opted by the candidate)
(iv) Document Verification/Interview
(v) Medical Test

The subjects and the time duration for the Tier II Exam remains the same but the number of Questions will be 120. There will be negative marking of 0.25 for every wrong answer marked. The Syllabus also remains the same for Tier I and Tier II except that of the exam pattern. For the reference of the candidates we have given the exam pattern for Tier II also.

  • Candidates who clear the Tier II exam will be shortlisted to next stage of selection process. The next stage of selection process will be Skill (Typing) Test/Aptitude Test. Based the post the candidate has applied for, it will be either Typing Test or Aptitude Test.
  • Candidates clearing the Typing (Skill) Test/Aptitude Test will be called in for Document Verification, following which shortlisted candidates should undergo Medical Fitness Test.
  • Candidates are given appointment only on declaring medically fit. Final Merit list is prepared considering Medical Fitness Test. Check detailed Exam pattern for Typing Test and Aptitude Test in the sections below and syllabus for NTPC is available in RRB Syllabus.

The Typing Skill Test is qualifying in nature and the candidates appearing in Typing Skill Test have to type in the language opted during application.

  • Typing Skill Test will be conducted only on Computer to be provided by RRBs with disabling editing tools and spell check facility. KrutiDev & Mangal font shall be made available for candidates appearing Typing Skill Test in Hindi.
  • Typing Skill Test is qualifying in nature i.e. marks obtained in Typing Skill Test shall not be added for making merit. Merit of these posts will be drawn only for the candidates who qualified in the Typing Skill Test, based on performance in 2nd Stage CBT.

Aptitude Test is conducted for candidates who have applied for the post of Assistant Station Master (Cat. No. 7) and Traffic Assistant (Cat. No. 8) and got shortlisted in Tier II Exam. There are also other posts for which Aptitude Test will be conducted, which will be notified along with official notification.

  • The test comprises of several test batteries and the candidate should clear each test battery to be considered eligible. The Test will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
  • Candidates scoring marks less the qualifying score will be rejected from the selection process of ASM and TA but can be considered eligible for other posts depending on merit cum preferences and suitability.
  • Candidates called in for taking up Aptitude Test should submit Vision Certificate from an Eye Specialist on prescribed proforma given along with the notification, failing which candidate will not be allowed to take up the Test.
  • The merit list will be prepared only for those candidates who are found eligible in Aptitude Test. The score is calculated based on 70% weightage given to 2nd Stage CBT and 30% weightage to Aptitude Test.

Assistant Loco Pilot post in Indian Railways is a post which requires high efficiency, perceptive skills, and good medical condition of the candidates. The selection/recruitment for this post is done separately and is done in three stages

  1. Written Test
  2. Viva-voce/Skill test, Document Verification
  3. Medical Fitness Test

The written exam for Assistant Loco Pilot will be Objective Type and for time duration of 90 minutes. Check the table for latest pattern of the exam and the official Notification on RRB ALP & Technicians Posts CBT 2018 Section wise marks.

Candidate must have high leveled medical standard which is no other category required so far. Loco running men/railway drivers must have the highest standard of medical fitness in medical. This medical standard has to be maintained from the period of joining and up to the end of the carrier as Railway driver.

Psychological Test for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot is conducted as a part of Skill Test. Few of the Psychological test is to

  • Measure Ability to Follow Directions
  • Measure Memory

RRB Exam Pattern for RPF Constables:

The selection for constables will also follow a three-stage process and also physical fitness as the main key. The three-stage process is

Candidates clearing the physical fitness will be called in for Written test. The Exam Pattern for Written Exam is given below.

There will be negative marking of 1/3 of the mark assigned to that question. Candidates clearing Written test will be called in for Interview. Final selection is made upon candidate being medically fit after medical examination is done. Check RRB Syllabus for detailed syllabus of Constables and Sub-Inspectors.

The recruitment of Sub-Inspector is more or like Constable recruitment process where Physical Fitness stands are a key eligibility followed by Written Test. The selection for RPF Sub-Inspectors will follow a three-stage process as given below

  • Physical Fitness
  • Preliminary Efficiency Test
  • Written Test

Only candidates with specified physical fitness i.e. height, weight, etc will be selected to take up the Preliminary efficiency test. Candidates qualifying the 2nd stage i.e. Preliminary Efficiency Test will take up the written test. Written Test for Sub-Inspector post will be having four subjects i.e. General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Numerical Aptitude, and English Comprehension. The selection of RRB Group D posts is done to fill the arising vacancies in Group D posts every year. There are around seven posts which fall under Group D and the selection is done in four stages.

  • Written Test
  • Physical Efficiency Test
  • Document and Candidate verification
  • Medical Test

The Written test will be usually Computer-based Test (CBT) of objective type multiple choice questions. There will be around 100 questions and time duration of 90 minutes. Check the detailed pattern below.
