1.The Indian Policy Think Tank, NITI Aayog together with Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has launched a first of its kind online portal, India Innovation Index in India to rank the states on the basis of innovation. The Index has been developed by the Indian sides in consultation with the World Economic Forum, the World Intellectual Property Organization, Cornell University, OECD, UNIDO, ILO, UNESCO, ITU and others. 2.Indian singer Neeti Mohan to collaborate with UN for women empowerment project titled “Music To Inspire – Artists UNited Against Human Trafficking” which is managed by the UNODC.Neeti is the first Indian female singer to collaborate with UN .She has joined the ranks of Ashton Kutcher, Nicholas Cage, Demi Moore, Ashley Judd, Gillian Anderson 3.India and Sri Lanka has signed an MoU on February 2, 2017 for the construction of a multi-ethnic tri-lingual school in a north central district of the island nation.The school would provide an opportunity to Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim students to learn in a multi-cultural environment and thus promote reconciliation and unity in Sri Lanka.The MoU was signed between India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Secretary to the Ministry of Education Sunil Hettiarachchi. 4.The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation’s(SAARCs)53rd Programming Committee Meeting began on February 1, 2017 in Kathmandu, Nepal.The two day meeting was attended by joint secretary/director general of the eight member nations.The meeting that concluded on February 2, 2017 was organized as a part of the annual activities of the group that mandates to have at-least two meeting of the committee in a year. The main area of discussion revolved around Budget allocation for the management of SAARC. 5.HSBC has estimated the GDP growth rate of India at 7.1 percent for the year 2017-18which is up from the 6.3 percent in the year 2016-17. The main reason for this increase is cited to sufficient remonetization by April end, thus boosting the consumption level in the country to normal. Besides, the schemes announced in Budget 2017-18 are also seen to play major role in the growth rate. Besides, the investment is projected to remain weak within a range of 7.5-8 percent. 6.National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on February 2, 2017 sanctioned a loan amount of Rs. 157 crore to the Government of Haryana to undertake drinking water project.Under the project, the government would undertake drinking water supply scheme in 84 villages of districts Palwal and Faridabad.As per the project, portable drinking water would be supplied in selected villages in blocks Prithla, Palwal and Ballabhgarh from Yamuna flood plain by constructing ranney wells and deep tubewells. 7.Every year World Wetlands Day is observed on 2nd February to marking the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands or Ramsar Convention on 2 February 1971. 2017 Theme: Wetlands for Disaster Risk Reduction.This year motto is to raise awareness and to highlight the vital role of healthy wetlands in reducing the impacts of extreme events such as floods, droughts and cyclones on communities, and in helping to build resilience.  ...

The implementation of the system was done as per the directives of the Ministry of Shipping.    Paradip Port is the first among all Major Ports to have successfully implemented the RFID Access Control System adding yet another distinction to its string of achievements.  Income-Tax Amendment Bill     The Government has sought to bring to tax all unaccounted money that was flowing into the banking system following the demonetisation announcement on November 8. In this regard, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has introduced a Bill in Lok Sabha.         The Taxation Laws (Second Amendment) Bill, 2016 proposes to amend Section 115BBE of the Income Tax Act to provide for a punitive tax, surcharge and penalty on unexplained credit, investment, cash and other assets. Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, 2016’ (PMGKY)    An alternative Scheme namely, ‘Taxation and Investment Regime for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, 2016’ (PMGKY) has been proposed in the Bill. UNCITRAL  India is hosting the golden jubilee (50 years) celebrations of United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).   The event is being hosted by the UNCITRAL National Coordination Committee India (UNCCI) and the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, with the support of the Permanent Court of Arbitration. Bitcoin   Unocoin, an Indian bitcoin start-up, has unveiled a new app for Apple’s mobile operating system iOS and Google’s Android platform. According to the firm, the app will allow consumers to buy, sell, send, receive and store bitcoins, all in one place, from any remote device.         Unocoin said the implementation is timely because bitcoin adoption is rapidly ascending in India, coupled with the government’s decision to demonetise Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 notes.   With this, Unocoin has become the first company in the country to offer a full-featured mobile bitcoin app. This includes 24/7 access to real-time bitcoin market prices and instantaneous trading transactions. Chief Ministers panel to study demonetization effect:            Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been nominated by the Central Government to head the sub-committee of Chief Ministers of five States constituted to study the situation arising out of the demonetization of big notes.      The committee, after an indepth study of the situation and also after holding parleys with the banking institutions, is expected to submit its report to the Centre for taking required steps. India’s first digital village- Akodara  Akodara has earned the tag of India’s first digital village that uses a cashless system for payments of goods and services. Akodara is a tiny village around 90 km away from Ahmedabad, located in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat. The village was adopted by ICICI Bank in 2015 and made cashless by adopting digital technology.      ...
